First day on the road. The kids all did great, no major outbreaks of crying, whining, etc. The pack on top of the car acted effectively as a parachute cutting our gas mileage. Thinking of buying some kind of aero-dynamic wing that will deflect the wind. Tomorrow we start for Kansas City, Mo which is 636 miles from here. Today we only traveled 425 miles - and we're only getting about 380 miles to a tank (about 19mpg). So right off the bat this is costing us more in gas than we had figured.
